Eyes Wide Shut : 10/11/01

Is there a heaven?

Is there a hell?

And can you tell me why,

it's upon this earth we fell.

We walk in ignorance.

We believe it's bliss.

Is that the reason why,

people shut their eyes when they kiss?

Do we run from the truth?

Do we hide in our fears?

Is that what we've been doing,

have we been running all these years?

Can we really be happy?

Can dreams really come true?

What we each all believe,

makes the difference between me and you.

So few there are.

So many there could be.

If only we could open up,

let in the light to see.

Why do we always seem to think.

How can we even conceive.

That we are so high and mighty,

because in “ Him “ we believe.

But yet those who stray,

Those who are set apart,

are told that they are shunned,

away from “His Holy Heart “.

This heaven, this hell.

Which there's no one to tell,

what's wrong and what's right.

And the truth is still far,

far out of our sight.

I really do hope you like and enjoy this. If so and if you would like to share this with anyone, you are more than welcome to. To me (and maybe even to you) it is something to think about as an issue of today’s society. People are not looking at things with an objective point view anymore. They no longer consider others ideas, feelings, or beliefs anymore, only there own. And with that in mind they feel they have the right to look down upon those who are unlike themselves.

Those people who now have opened their eyes and hearts to something new —to what feels right to them and makes them their own person—, these are the people who desire peace, who wish for all people to accept each other as the package comes, and who hope and dream that someday all people will finally see what they finally did ‑that not everyone is always going to agree with you no matter what you try to tell them. They will follow what their heart tells them feels right. Even if it is different from what everyone else thinks.

These people are not the people that seem to wonder, like mindless zombies, who do not follow their hearts, but instead follow, without question, a book that tells them exactly how to live their lives, a life without sin and without flaw, perfection. A request that is more or less impossible to try to live up to. For the idea of perfection is merely an idea and nothing more. Those who strive to reach it, inevitably will falter.

People will never find their true selves when they try their entire lives to be something that does not even exist. In this strife for perfection a person may be able to carry on a “life”, but they will never truly “live”. In this “book” it says, to sum it up, if you are not perfect in this man’s, “God’s”, eyes because you did not follow his word and these rules and standards that he has set, you have done wrong and are condemned to a life of torture and abuse in his so called after-life, or as many may call it hell.

Only, what many people do not realize is that as these religious extremists shun and curse those who have founded their ideas on their own hearts and minds instead of a book, those few free minded people, have already been living a life much like this so called hell for many, many years now. Only because they are exercising their freedom to believe whatever they wish. They are ignored, judged in the eyes of hatred, cursed at and threatened. They have taken minor and near death beatings, been shot, and have even been so much as cruelly and grotesquely tortured to death. All by extremists, who think there can be no other way but their own, and that the “Non-believers” of today will only corrupt the minds of our present and future generations. That with them, there can be no peace in this already hate-filled, unforgiving, materialistic, judgmental, ignorant (Do you get my point?) cruel little world.

How unfortunate and sad I truly feel it is for a person to walk in the streets of our cities now-a-days and feel obligated to look down on others as if they were merely just another stone laid in the street to walk upon repetitiously everyday. To you it could never get old, but what people may not see is how it wears down that rock until it feels weak and unsturdy, on the verge of breaking. With what reason or purpose does this almost mind-shattering hate have to even be existing at all? It has none, we just use as an excuse and a crutch to fall back on so we feel better about ourselves and the things we do. Another excuse to try and justify our wrong doings as good.

People are blinded by such ignorant hatred throughout their whole lives that they do not realize that because we are all different in every way imaginable, our ideas will never be a perfect fit. If there even is such a thing. As we have for many centuries, we will always argue over petty differences, but our religion and faith should not ever have to be one of them. Whatever religion you are, be it a Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, or even a Satanist, there is never a need for extreme. Love all unconditionally, accept all with open mind and heart and always at least make an attempt to get to know and understand something or someone. There could be something there you never saw before because you never gave it a chance.
